This is my first foray into film making. I've had no formal training but I've made music videos before for my previous releases, all on zero budget and usually made on my mobile phone with whatever is to hand.
A DVD of old family super 8 cine films had been in my desk drawer for years. I took it out (with no intention at all of making a film) and was inspired straight away. At the same time I found some old songs of mine which I was planning to re-record, and they happened to fit perfectly with the feel of the film footage.
The main cast is my Mum and Dad when they were in their late teens through to early thirties. It's a chronological voyeuristic look at their life in their home county of Norfolk where they both grew up. Little did they know they were shooting and starring in a short film at the time! It follows their first big holiday abroad together to Italy and Switzerland and them settling in Norfolk, in the same house that they've lived in ever since.
The soundtrack comprises original compositions by myself and friend Liam Capper-Starr, which I recorded and produced in my home studio. The tape recordings are from old cassette tapes from the early 1980's and add a hauntological, dreamlike feel to the film.
